Was taking a look at the “deleteme” service offered by abine.com, when I came across their example report, which shows a list of companies who aggregate your data (full name, age, date of birth, current and former addresses, phone number, education, employment, and much more) and allow other individuals to purchase.
With “emailfinder” by Intelius, it allows you to get access to an unlimited amount of individuals data for a measly $30 a month. For a one-time payment of $7, you get to see their email address and social networks, as well as everything listed above. For a one-time payment of $40, you get to see everything listed above, plus their criminal checks, lien (when you have a loan or debt), bankruptcy, lawsuits, marriages, divorces, and more.
When I saw this, I was couldn’t stop laughing (not the funny ha-ha kind) at how terrifying this is. Pretty much every single thing about you is available online, anytime, for a small fee. This is the kind of information that could allow people to open up credit cards in your name, or worse.
I’ve been really privacy focused for many years, but coming across this is just such a shock, that I really felt like I need to share it with more people. If more people knew about this, I feel like a lot of peoples stance on privacy would make a 180°.
