The House Committee on Energy and Commerce held Ajit Pai accountable for a myriad of failings at today’s hearing entitled, “Accountability and Oversight of the Federal Communications Commission.” You can watch the blow-by-blow action at this YouTube recording of the hearing.
The Chairman of the Committee, Representative Mike Doyle of Pennsylvania, set the tone by venting frustration over FCC inaction, saying to Pai, “This Committee expects you to do more than just sit on your hands.” (See the start of Doyle’s questioning at 58:50.)
We need a “Pai sitting on this hands and looking sheepish” meme. 😉
Representative Anna Eshoo of California criticized Pai for ineffective leadership on internet access mapping and then blasted him on the out-of-control robocall issue, telling him a “summit” isn’t the answer. She advised him to “put the pedal to the metal” by staffing a division to fix the robocall problem and then asking consumers to grade his performance.
Eshoo also questioned Pai’s conscience over his treatment of the poor with regard to Lifeline program cuts. You can see her bringing the heat starting at @2:55.
It’s a long hearing, but an informative one that covers everything from 5G to lack of rural connectivity to net neutrality. Make some popcorn and enjoy giving Pai a piece of you mind vicariously.
