Is there a point to oversizing solar installation?

Is there a point to oversizing solar installation? This question is specifically for grid tied systems, and I am looking for answers relevant to Madison, WI. I’m considering doing a solar install, but couldn’t find info on what happens if you produce more electricity than you use per year. Articles I read said it would roll into the next month etc. and that you could end up with a $0 bill, but never mentioned if you would get paid for extra that you produce. At some point I may switch…

Off grid solar bell tent advice needed

Off grid solar bell tent advice needed Solar Advice needed…. We’re moving into a temporary camp on our land while we wait for our off grid house to be built. As the main solar system for the house won’t be installed for a while we need something on a smaller scale that we will keep for future use also for the camp area. I’ve worked out that our electric usage will be about 400 watt hours per day (small usage of 2 laptops, phones and a small β€œDometic compressor fridge”).…

(x-post r/solar) Upgraded my solar panels and getting shutdowns

(x-post r/solar) Upgraded my solar panels and getting shutdowns Hello, I had a solar system for about a year and it was working well but I wanted to add 3 panels to my previous 9 and add an aircontioner… but now my inverter shuts down because of to high PV input? I searched since days but I cant really figure out how I can solve this… Can I rewire the panels somehow to make it work or do I need a new Inverter? https://i.redd.it/1gu5lp53ro221.jpg submitted by /u/vaitor to r/SolarDIY [link]…

Got me a Sunny Boy tower. It has 1 inverter and pretty much everything to connect it to solar panels. $200 bucks… LOL. My first Craigslist haul towards a 5kw system for my brothers house.

Store energy in the night

Store energy in the night Hi, Maybe this is a stupid question .. If I have an electricity contract, where in the night (23:00-08:00) the energy is free, should be possible store energy in battery to use during the day? I have some server equipment that run every day 24/7 and consume about 400w. The energy cost here is about 0.2 euro/kwh, I don’t know if it could be profitable. Inverter to mobile home(sub panel) hardwire help needed

Inverter to mobile home(sub panel) hardwire help needed I’ve got an off-grid setup I use an as office right now, it’s an older mobile home (1980), it’s perfectly sound but no grid connections nearby. Since it’s a mobile home the breaker box is set as a sub panel. Right now I’m just running 2 extension cords from the inverter but it can be hardwired. What I can’t find is that means I can just grab some 12/3 and run a couple outlets into the building or if I can wire…
