Why do instant messengers not simply use PGP?

Why do instant messengers not simply use PGP? First of all, I barely have any knowledge in cryptography or security, so please be gentle with me πŸ˜„. I just read a pretty good article on the security of today’s instant messengers. Apparently, many of them are based on the Signal protocol, which seems to be very elaborate and sophisticated. Also, the article states that “cryptography is notoriously complex and easy to screw up”. I was wondering why is that? Why not simply use PGP, just like with encrypted e-mails? I’ve…

ChaCha20 v AES256

ChaCha20 v AES256 I’ve been looking for a comparison of ChaCha20 v AES256, that goes as far to say that ChaCha20 is at least as secure as AES256 or better. They’re both 256-bit keys. ChaCha20 appears to be less vulnerable to timing attacks, and is easier to implement with less room for mistakes than AES256, and is more CPU friendly. Is that all there is to the story? submitted by /u/MrHanoixan [link] [comments] top scoring links : crypto Cryptography is the art of creating mathematical assurances for who can do…
